The Spicy New Flavor of Algorand Foundation Twitter May Burn Some, But I Am Here For it
Although we can all agree that Algorand is the fastest, greenest, and most reliable blockchain, a recent change has divided the community on Twitter: @AlgoFoundation
Let’s take a look at both sides of the debate, but first, in the spirit of full disclosure:
- I only became active on Twitter around the the same time, so I didn’t follow Algorand Foundation prior to about mid April.
- I used to manage the social media for a county animal shelter, and fielded some pretty intense community sentiments during that time.
- I am a firm believer that animal gif > no animal gif, so there’s that.
There are some concerns that posting memes, replying with gifs, and participating in jokes could diminish the credibility of the Foundation and therefor the Algorand blockchain overall.
Those people are probably just mad that they can’t yet buy Algorand headphones on Amazon.
Seriously though, any time you use humor in a work or professional setting, you are taking a risk. Especially anything that makes people feel embarrassed, singled out, or as if something they care about has been attacked (see: Will Smith). Things that can be interpreted as off topic or a waste of time also have the tendency to confuse and annoy.
On the other hand, engagement is higher than ever and people are paying attention, to see what @AlgoFoundation comes up with next.
We are no longer dealing a bland nonprofit official nonprofit saying exactly what you’d expect, and that’s a good thing.
Algorand as a brand is working hard — and succeeding — at bringing in people from other chains and those who are totally new to crypto as well. Having a fun and playful representative will further distinguish Algorand as being the friendly and welcoming blockchain.
If the Tweets are too hot for you, grab a drink and chill out.
I have advanced PIO training and haven’t personally seen anything yet that’s inappropriate or harmful. I think we will see the @AlgoFoundation Twitter persona continue to grow and evolve, and maybe even get more mild as they try things out and really come into their own.
In the mean time, bring on the saucy posts, spicy comments, and gifs that hit!
